Metamorphosis

Who is she?
I spent the last day of 2011 sleeping in, enjoying good coffee, reading a good book and drawing.  What a peaceful day.  I escaped to my fairy tale world and finished this piece that I call Metamorphosis.

Pencil and ink
It was a rough year.  But it wasn't all bad.  Here's to looking forward to a happier year.

Peace and love,

Favorite color palette!

Hi there,
Another week has flown by. I would say TGIF, except it's after midnight so it's really Saturday morning.  No worries, I'm heading off to bed once I finish this post.
Another Friday, means another Dilly Beans challenge!  This week's theme is Shades of Red and Black.  This happens to be one of my favorite color combinations, next to black and white.
Happy Bunny went to San Diego for the week to visit family, so I'm on my own on this one ;)

I chose the butterfly for this card because of it's life cycle.  I mean, how awesome is it to morph into something so beautiful?  So, for the new year I'm looking to love myself more and change for the better so I can love others and help them.
OK, off to bed I go.  Good night...er morning.
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo
P.S. Happy Bunny will be back next week :)

Going rogue...

The coolest thing about sharing your art is that you get to learn from others.  I've recently discovered Rogue challenges by Rogue Redhead Designs.  I came about this place by exploring the blog of one of our Wicked Wednesday participants, Beverly.
The current challenge calls for a grid design.  I created this chunky page (4x4 mini pieces of art) to participate in the fun:
Ingredients:
Bazzil cardstock
Ribbon and embellishments from my stash
stamped sentiment
scalloped corners punch by ek success
I am going to also submit this for the anything goes challenge over at Fat Pages with Attitude
Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by!

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo
P.S. Thanks for the inspiration Bev!

What's in store for 2012?

Here's a sneak peek at what I've been up to when I'm not creating for a challenge...I'm hoping to complete this piece in time to post on New Year's Day.

Coming soon...
Until then, Merry Christmas!
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

When food and fashion collide...

Hey there!
With so much holiday stuff going on, I literally needed to take a break from it all.  I needed to see something that was NOT red, green, white...you get the idea.  This is why I love ATCs so much.  They are little morsels of creativity on a 2.5 x 3.5 canvas.  So, I went ahead and combined some of my favorite things:
1. Pink
2. Cake
3. Victorian fashion
This is my version of Marie Antoinette.

Let them eat cake!

She's going to make her debut over at ATCs with Attitude - Anything Goes.

Have a great week everybody!

The Beautiful Insomniac

Do you ever have one of those nights where you just lay there and sleep just doesn't come?  It's as if everyone has their tickets to take the train to sleepytown and you just happen to get their when they're all sold out?  Or you have a date with Mr. Sandman and he stood you up?
This was me most of last week.  No matter what I did, I was just so wound up that sleep would not claim me.  But I knew I was physically exhausted.  However, I made the best of it.
I lounged on my couch and drew whatever came to my mind.  The end result was this:
Pencil and ink
This is three sleepless night's worth of work.  It was quite cathartic.  Even though I was tired, I felt at peace.  I would like to think that this is how my dreamscape would look like as a drawing.  Hooray for surrealism!  Yes, my subconscious self is a green eyed brunette, lol.  Fortunately, Sleep has come back and I am able to start my days freshly recharged.

Sweet dreams!
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

I'll be home for Christmas...

I've been busy participating in art challenges lately and haven't done much reflecting.  Call this a self portrait of sorts.  Home is where the heart is....only problem is I'm not quite sure where it is at the moment.

Ink and pencil
Here's to finding the way.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season.

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Calling all angels!

Dark Angel
pencil, ink, embossing tool, crayon

Guess what?! It's time for another Wicked Wednesday challenge :)  I am very happy that I decided to join in on the fun.  This gurantees that at least once a week, I set aside some time from my crazy busy work schedule to be my creative self.  The best part of it all, I get to share it and see other people's amazing creative endeavors.
When I am creating, nothing else matters.  All my troubles and worries melt away.

Anway, I digress.  This week's theme is about angels.  Here's my angel.  Consider this a portrait of my muse.  The hardest part for me was her wings.  I used an embossing tool to create the lines in each feather and then colored them in to bring the etched image out.  I did the same for the two larger feathers in the background.

Hope you like it just as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Wicked Wednesday Halloween

Princess of the Night
Pencil, crayon, ink

I am so happy to have discovered the world of ATCs!  It's even cooler when you get to share your work with so many talented and creative people.  Since I've joined Wicked Wednesday, I was hooked.  I look forward to seeing other people's submissions and checking out their awesome sites.

This is my submission for the second Wicked Wednesday challenge: Halloween!  I was inspired by the design team's little heart monster.  Scary but cute :)

Let's see what happens this week.  Until then, be well
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Trying something new...

Flower girl
The one medium that I am most uncomfortable with is watercolor or any derivation of it.  I see it, I run.  But if I keep doing that, I will never know my potential with this medium.  So I started small.  The flowers are in watercolor and the rest is pencil.
One of my best friends was actually my source of inspiration for this one.  She recently hi-lighted her hair blue and I can't wait to see it!
Well, I can't say I'm comfortable with watercolor, but I'm going to incorporate it more often into my work.  Practice, practice, practice...speaking of which, I'm going to switch over to music mode now.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Daydreaming...

Sea of Love
Sometimes my drawings take on a life of their own.  I can't really say what my source of inspiration was for this piece.  But, I am totally in love with the color palette and the way her hair turned out.  I hope you like it just as much as I do.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Firefly

Once again I found my inspiration from lyrics penned by Sal.  He uses words to create a landscape in your mind's eye.  Lucky for me, it's currently posted on his site so you can have a listen.  Click on "Sal's music".  See what kind of picture is created in your mind's canvas.

La Belleza

I'm back!  It's been a while since I've posted work on this site.  I've been working on other projects.

My creativity is in OVERDRIVE and I am totally enjoying it!
This piece was inspired by "The Day Before", a song that my guitar instructor wrote.  Usually it's the lyrics that are the source of my inspiration; but this is not the case this time.
The song is upbeat with a latin flair.  Everytime I listen to it, all I can see is a beautiful flamenco dancer that's swirling furiously in my mind's eye.
Thanks for being a continued source of inspiration Sal!

I'm loving life!
Love and peace,
Mary xoxo

Trapped

Bound by Pride
Driven by Ambition
False Pilar of Praise
Surrounded by lies
Ice cold heart
Turns to stone;
I am empty
Bound and broken
Unheard screams of despair
Sleep won't come soon enough
One last cry
Let the sun set in my eyes

Life is too short; Cherish each day that you are given, it is not a gift but a blessing

NOT COOL!

Hey everyone,
A fellow artist's work was plagiarized!  Please read this:
http://honeyjumble.blogspot.com/2011/07/ripped-off.html

This person had the gall to steal Bee's work. Talk about total lack of professionalism and creativity.

Spread the word!

Words CAN hurt

I was listening to PINK'S "F**kin' Perfect":

You're so mean when you talk about yourself, you are wrong

change the voices in your head. Make them like you instead....

Whoever said that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me are wrong. Words CAN hurt. With all that is going on in today's world, let's try to practice mindfulness and compassion as best we can.
